If you ask Elementary School students at Community School what they hope to be when they grow up, many will answer ‘scientists.’ This is because of Bob Polk. Bob, a science teacher at the school for 10 years, is one of the most engaging, hands-on teachers around who is not afraid of blowing things up in the name of education. Whether it is exploring electric circuits, amphibians, the principals of flight, local ecology or whatever else his students are interested in, he is a very special teacher. In his free time, Bob travels the world, expertly kite surfs and spends quality time with his wife and two teenage daughters. Bob learned to skate on a frozen farm pond and hasn’t been on blades in quite some time, but for his students and his school, he is prepared to take some spills in pursuit of the gold.
Bob is competing for Community School.
